Alcohol E&A Policy and Guidelines
The following sections outline the DESI Events & Activities Alcoho Policy. This policy is made under the UTS Indian Society and Affiliated DESI Clubs Constitution and supports compliance with: - Liquor Act (NSW) - The University of Technology Sydney Campus Policy. Where relevant or required this policy also supports compliance with guidelines set and administered by the NSW Liquor and Gaming Commission. For clubs carrying the DESI brand by the UTS Indian Society and any newly affiliated clubs and societies that join the DESI Brand this policy must be read in conjunction with the respective universities Clubs and Societies Regulations. In consultation with the President and the General Secretary, we may issue guidelines in relation to the implementation of the following Alcohol Policy.
DESI is committed to the provision of a healthy, safe and supportive environment in relation to alcohol and aims to:
Ensure a safe and inclusive environment, free from harassment and social pressure, for all staff and students
Promote a culture of responsible use, service and consumption of alcohol, and encourage awareness and support of personal safety and security in relation to alcohol and drinking
Discourage opportunities that contribute to risky drinking practices and associated behaviours and reduce alcohol-related harm and its impact on DESI and wider communities - Provide support to student representatives, staff and volunteers who wish to address their patterns of alcohol use or other alcohol-related issues. All on and off-campus DESI events where alcohol is to be served and/or sold must be planned, promoted and delivered in a manner that aligns with DESI ’s commitment to the responsible use and service of alcohol.
EXPECTATIONS OF STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES, STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS.
All DESI event attendees, staff and volunteers have a shared responsibility to support and comply with DESI ’s Alcohol Policy and demonstrate responsible behaviour in relation to alcohol use, service and consumption at all times while performing duties for or on behalf of DESI or representing DESI , both on and off DESI premises.
This includes but is not limited to: - Ensuring they do not attend DESI or DESI events if adversely affected or impaired due to the consumption of alcohol. Any attendee, staff member or volunteer who is found to be adversely affected or impaired due to the consumption of alcohol may be requested by DESI to leave the event or workplace immediately until such time that they are no longer impaired - Observing all relevant legislation and applicable laws in relation to using, possessing, giving or selling alcohol - Conducting themselves at all times in accordance with the UTS Campus Policy. Where a student representative, staff or volunteer fails to comply with the DESI Alcohol Policy, or their actions or behaviour in relation to the use, service and consumption of alcohol impact the safety or enjoyment of other staff, students or visitors, or risk harm to individuals, property or the reputation of DESI , disciplinary actions as specified by the respective Clubs Constitution, or in the case of staff by the relevant enterprise agreement, may be instituted.
